How It Works
The shortest distance between a question and an answer
Every extra step between asking and answering costs you responses. A survey that lives in the message removes all of them.
Answered in one click
The rating lives in the message. A subscriber picks a star, a number or a face and the vote is recorded. No landing page, no login, no second click to lose them at.
Three rating types
Stars, numbers or emoji faces, on any scale up to 10. Pick the one that suits the question: a satisfaction score and a net-promoter question do not want the same widget.
Styled to your brand
Run the red-to-green gradient, or set your own primary and secondary colours. Choose circles or squares for number scales, and show labels under the icons when the scale needs explaining.
Results as they land
Average rating, the spread across the scale, and every individual vote with its timestamp, updating as responses arrive, not after the campaign closes.
Styling
Make it look like it belongs in your email
A rating widget that clashes with the message reads as an ad. Set the scale, the shape and the colours so it looks like part of the email it sits in.
- Gradient or your own colours
- Red-to-green across the scale, or a primary and secondary color you choose.
- Circles or squares
- Number scales take either shape.
- Labels under the icons
- Turn them on when a bare scale would leave the reader guessing what 3 means.

Results
Watch the answers arrive
Every vote lands in your dashboard as it happens. See the average, see how the answers spread across the scale, and read individual responses with the time each one came in.
- The average, across every vote so far.
- The distribution: an average of 5.3 hides whether people are lukewarm or evenly split between delighted and furious.
- Individual votes, searchable and paged, with timestamps.
Setup
Live in three steps
Write the question
Name the survey, write one question, and pick the rating type and scale. That is the whole setup.
Paste one line
Alterable gives you a block of image links: one per rating. Drop it into your ESP like any other image. No integration, no code.
Read the results
Votes appear as subscribers answer. Send them on to a thank-you page of your choosing once they have.
Questions about surveys
How does a subscriber answer without leaving the email?
Each rating is a link behind its own image. Clicking one records that value and forwards the reader to your thank-you page, so the answer costs a single click from inside the message.
Which email clients does it work in?
Any of them. The widget is ordinary images and links: the same things every client has rendered for twenty years. There is no script, no AMP and no interactive-email fallback to maintain.
What scales can I use?
Anything from 2 to 10. Five stars for satisfaction, ten numbers for NPS-style scoring, or five faces when you want an answer from people who will not read a scale.
Can I match my brand colours?
Yes. Use the built-in red-to-green gradient, or set a primary and secondary color of your own. Number scales can be circles or squares.
Where do the results go?
Into your Alterable dashboard: the average, the distribution across the scale, and a searchable list of individual votes with timestamps, which you can page through as they arrive.
